Showing Day - Part 2 - Knitting

My knitting isn't as quite as long as my crocheting post... :)

Here's what I made for knitting -

Yep, I know I made soo much! :) But, if you want to get this scarf for your little girl, you can go here, buy it, AND help bring a sweet little girl named Lilly home! :)

I really, really wish..

...That I could use copy and paste with knitting!

...That I would have more time before Fair to get things done.

...That this Fair thing would be over with.

...That I didn't have to tape my finger up (knitting bends it weird) so it's easier to type.

...And that I had time to blog about that thing in my last post!!

Review of My 2010 Goals

I just remembered/realized, thanks to an awesome friend!, that I posted my 2010 goals at the beginning of last year. I was just going through them, and I only knocked about 1/2 of them off of my list, but I have done so much more in the last year than I would have EVER imagined at the beginning of the year! Below is the list I posted last year, and the results.

Crochet Goals:
-Make an afghan - DONE!
-Learn the popcorn stitch - not done
-Learn the shell stitch - not done
-Make 50 baby hats for charity - not done
-Teach at least 3 people to crochet - DONE!
-Make a doily out of thread - not done
-Made at least 6 snowflakes out of thread - not done
-Buy less yarn and use more of what I have (Mom says that's a good goal :-)) - still working on it...

Knitting Goals:
-Learn how to purl - not done (Auntie Debbie - HELP!)
-Make a scarf - DONE!
-Make at least two baby hats for charity - one done
-Make another scarf - not done

Sewing Goals:
-Learn how my sewing machine was made and how it operates - not done
-Make a summer top and shorts - not done
-Design and make more of my own clothes - still working on it!
-Make a patchwork quilt - not done!
-Make fiesta skirt - DONE!


I guess I didn't even get half the things done, but that's okay! There is always this coming year, and look how much MORE I got done!

- Organizing and making things for the Block Party (8 blankets for the first Block Party last year and 6 already for this coming year!)
- Raising money for orphans - Elijah, Tori, Anastasiya, Sergey, and now Eddie!
- Made lots of things for those in EE (like slippers and hats)

This may not seem like a lot, only three things, but they weren't one dish each either. And I know that by doing that that I helped to bless many people.

Fair Showing - Knitting

I showed this knitted scarf and got a blue on it - the judge liked that I chose such a hard yarn to work with for my first project. I used this yarn because it was too hard to crochet with.

I also showed this knitted dish cloth and got a red on it.

I also made this baby hat and got a red on it because the gathering at the top is uneven.

Knitted Baby Hat

I just found this post. I was typed at the beginning of June, and I never got published. I thought I had published it, but I guess not. :)

I finished this knitted baby hat the other day. I am going to bring it to fair. The pattern for it can be found here. I put a crocheted border around the bottom of it. After fair I am going to send it to Ukraine. I hope it will keep some little baby's head warm!

My First Knitted Dish Cloth

Quite a while ago, I started my first knitted dish cloth. I started it at the beginning of Febuary. I got it just about 3/4 of the way done by the Block Party, and then I set it down. Yesterday, I was watching Knit and Crochet Today on TV. They did the knitting project first, so I was sitting there watching them knit. Watching them inspired me to pull out my knitting and work on it. My knitting project happened to be my dish cloth. I ended up finishing it. Then I put a single crochet border around it. I used size 7 needles, and it is all the basic knit stitch. I am really glad to finally have it done! I am planning on bringing it to the fair in August.

My First Knitted Scarf

For my first knitting project, I made a scarf. I started it on Nov. 17, 2009 and I finished it on Saturday. My grandma gave me the ball of yarn, because she wasn't going to use it. It tried crocheting with it, and it was nearly impossible to crochet with, so I decided to knit a scarf with it. Knitting with fancy/fuzzy yarn isn't as difficult as crocheting, because you don't have to go back into the yarn with knitting like you do with crocheting. The reason it took me so long to finish it is because I couldn't figure out how to bind off (taking all the loops off of the needle), so I had to have someone show me. Another reason it took me so long is, (as you already know from reading my blog) I have been very busy. :-) Below are some pictures.

The edges look like they are uneven, and that I messed up big time, but that is because the yarn changes thicknesses in different spots. I managed to keep the same number of stitches throughout the whole scarf.

My Goals for 2010

I have been working on a list of goals for 2010 that I thought I would share. I am supposed to list some of my goals in my 4-H Record Book so I thought I would list them on my blog. (Hey, did you catch that? I have already started on my Record Book instead of waiting a week before it's due. :-) Hurray for me!)


Crochet Goals:

-Make an afghan

-Teach at least 3 people to crochet (two down, one to go)

-Make a doily out of thread

Knitting or Crocheting

Many people have asked me what the difference between knitting and crocheting is, so I will try to explain it to you. In knitting you use two needles that are pointed, kind of like two pencils. In crocheting you use one hook, and crochet is pulling loops through each other. I have also been asked what is easier. I think crocheting is easier, but knitting is not as hard as I thought it would be. One of my friends, Brianna knits and crochets and she thinks knitting is easier. I think this link explains the difference pretty well.
