Pattern Notes:
*Ch 2 at beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
*To join at end of round, sl st in top of first dc made in round, not the chain.
*First stitch of round should be made in same stitch as the sl st from the joining of the previous row.
With I hook and red (or color of choice) yarn:
ch 3, or create a magic loop and ch 2
Rnd 1: 10 dc in first chain made, or in magic loop, join. (10 dc)
Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 dc in ea st around, join. (20 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 2, *2 dc in first st, dc in next st, rpt from * around, join. (30 dc)
Rnd 4: ch 2, *2 dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, rpt from * around, join. (40 dc)
*Hat should measure 4.25" to 4.5" in diameter at this point. If not, go up or a down a hook size.
Rnds 5-11: ch 2, dc in ea st around, join. (40 dc)
Rnd 12: ch 1, sc in ea st around, join. (40 sc)
Fasten off and weave in end.
Leaf:
With G hook (use smaller or bigger hook for smaller or bigger leaf) and green:
ch 9, hdc in second st from hook, dc in next two chs, tr in next two chs, dc in next two chs, hdc in next ch. Fasten off, leaving long tail.
Stem:
With G hook and brown yarn:
ch 6 (more or less chs for taller or shorter stem)
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc in remaining sts.
Row 2-3: ch 1, turn, sc in ea st.
Fasten off, leaving long tail.
Assembly:
1) With brown tail, sew remaining loops of chain to loops on the top of row 3 to form a little tube.
2) Still using brown tail, sew stem to top of hat. Knot off and stick end back up through stem and out top to weave in, and trim tail.
3) Position leaf on hat with long tail towards the top, use long tail to sew top of leaf to top of hat, and st the next 3 sts going down in place. This will keep leaf in place and let it stick out. Knot off, and weave remaining tail in.
4) Weave in any ends. You're done!
Cute! We might make that to go along with a set of hat, sweater and booties :)
