This hat is a great choice for keeping your head warm this winter! Currently only in adult sizes, but can be made in any color, and so many things you can do for a flower or just leave the flower off all together!

-Approx. 3 oz of Lion Brand Homespun
-J hook (or size needed to obtain the gauge specified in pattern)
-Yarn Needle
-Optional: Flower hair clip or materials needed for flower or embellishment of choice

You're not a hat person, yet want a new fun accessory.... what to do? Make an infinity scarf of course!

They are stylish and so quick to make. Make several of them in a variety of colors to have something to match whatever you are wearing! They would also make good gifts!

Finished Size:

Approx 6" wide, and 56" around. Gauge is not super important for this project, but it will change the size slightly if yours if different than mine. Info for how to adjust size below.

Materials:

-6-7 oz of worsted weight yarn of choice. (I used 5.5 oz of Lion Brand Wool-Ease (2 skeins, with a little left over) in all examples except gray, which I used about 6-7 oz of Red Heart Super Saver in Grey Heather. Amount of yarn will depend on how heavy the yarn is, and the Super Saver one came out a bit stiffer.)
-M hook
-Yarn Needle

During my years of crocheting, there was something I could never get right - flowers. Every time I made one I did it a different way, partly because I couldn't remember how I did it the time before, and partly because the time before never looked how I wanted it too. I finally got it to come out right so I wrote up the pattern quick before I forgot! :)

This cute flower would be a great addition to many items. Hats, headbands, bags, etc. Or it could become a hair clip or pin. It can be used so many different ways for so many things!

Finished Size:
Depend on what size hook and yarn you use. Mine with an I hook and worsted weight yarn turned out to be about 3 in wide, with the top flower being about 1.5 in wide.

I have badly neglected this blog, that much I know.

Most of the things I'm making these days are for orders, and repeats of hats you've probably already seen here. And anything else? Well, I always forget to post it. Also, I don't know why, but I can never get posts to flow right when I'm posting about stuff I make, so they sound weird and I don't like to do them.

So I'm gonna make some changes here on For His Glory Handiwork.

In the past I've occasionally shared a few patterns. Now, that's about all I'll be sharing!

Lots and lots of free patterns coming soon to you my lovely crocheting friends. Free patterns are about all I use, and all I want to offer to you!

I'll be adding them to Ravelry, and have an easy way to view them here on the blog. I'll also have things up like what abbreviations stand for, and helpful links to size charts and things.

I'll be sharing some other things too like links to some of my favorite patterns, and other crafting related stuff, but mostly new patterns.

Along with this change, the blog will look a little different soon! :)

Also, if you don't have a good way to follow along and get new updates for posts and patterns here, I will be making a facebook page soon too, so watch for that.

Now that you've seen the day in picture's let talk about the day in numbers... :)

I was a bit concerned with the snow that we wouldn't have a very good turn out, but we did, with a total of almost 30 people coming to help sew!

We had 6 big blankets (twin size) pre-laid out before everyone arrived. We finished all six and another big one, with a total of 7 big (twin size) blankets sewed!

We had near 1300 blocks donated before the Block Party, and more were brought the day of, with a total of 1769 blocks for this year!

Thank you so much to Jill, Anna, Rachel, Isaac, Rebekah, Anita, Betty, Amy, Lora, Jenny, Sydney, Hazel, Ellie, Ellie, Tracy, Darlene, Jim, Jeanne, Laurie, Diane, Link, Sheri, Lisa, Lisa, Rochelle, Klara, Jocelyn, Heather, and anyone else I missed for coming and helping sew!!!!

And thank you from the bottom of my heart to every single person who made blocks, whether it was 1 or 1000, each one mattered!

Many people will feel the love stitched into each blanket, and they will be blessed because of your efforts. Each blanket and block is bring some joy and hope into the lives of the hopeless in Ukraine. Thank you!

Block Party Update!

Yup. So I failed at keeping this blog updated about the Block Party.

Contrary to previously announced date, the Block Party HAS NOT happened yet. It's being held a week from tomorrow, on February 23rd (we moved it from the 2nd mainly due to me traveling).

Slippers for Valla

In 2010, while in Ukraine, I made slippers for a sweet old lady at an adult mental institution. He name was Valla. A couple months later I blogged about it here. This is what I shared:

Most of the time we ministered in an adult handicapped home. We were at the facility most of the time but we also took them to outings to the beach a couple of times. We also go to visit the teen dorms, new mother dorms, baby orphanage, and children’s handicapped facility. There are only about 15 ladies at the adult handicapped home, and 300 men. One of these ladies is named Valla. From what I heard after, she had talked to almost everyone on our team (through a translator) and it just happened to be me who she talked to when she said she needed new slippers, because the ones she was wearing were getting old and had holes in them. I told her I would make some new ones and bring them to her next time I saw her. So I was able to go back to our apartment that night and crochet her a pair of slippers. I brought them to her the next day, and she loved them and kept saying how beautiful they were. It was so special to me that I was able to see what my hobby could do in the life of one of the lost and forgotten of Ukraine. I hope they fit her as she didn’t try them on as she was saving them for winter.

That was 2.5 years ago. Assuming she was wearing them all winter (or year) long, they would have been long worn out by now. When I heard that the mom of the kids I am staying with was going to that institution while she was in Ukraine, I knew I had to make Valla new slippers and send them with Stephanie. (She is in the same city I was, and I was at also the orphanage their new little guy is at.)

Here is Sasha (a sweet guy with Ds I also met at the institution, Valla, and Stephanie (the mom). It sounds like she really liked them... Stephanie said: Valla got her slippers today. She wouldn't let go of my hand. The boy in the photo has a toothache. His face is even swollen. Pray for these lovely people please.

It breaks my heart. They have nothing, and no hope. I can't be in there in person to minister to them and show them the love of Jesus, but I am soo blessed to be able to show Valla and others that they are loved in this small way and keep their feet warm.

For those of you who don't follow my other blog... I am back in KS with the family I was with in December. I'm back because their mama had to go back and bring home their new brother for good!!! This little man is one of the little ones I'm taking care of.

He likes my hat. He was smiling like crazy kept putting it back on when he would take it off. Love him!

So, not that it hasn't been, but forgive me if my blogging is a bit sparse in the next few weeks. I am getting lots of crocheting done for some reason (I can't figure it out!), but not much worth blogging about or anything DONE enough to blog about. :)

But.. one of the other little ones found my camera yesterday, and so here is a rarely seen picture of a work in progress. ;)

Little Lion

A friend of ours asked me to make a lion hat for her little one's lion themed birthday. It was fun to make and a pain to make at the same time, but she really liked it, and he is absolutely ADORABLE in it, so it was worth it.

Love this little man!! Can't believe he is one already!!

How I pulled off Christmas...

What did you say?? Christmas is in 3 days?? Oh... ya I haven't thought that far ahead yet. Making Christmas presents isn't even on my radar yet! 

What's that? Your Christmas presents are all made and done?? And even wrapped??? Well, good for you. I'm glad you have had lots of time to do that, and you are soo on top of things!

Why aren't I done yet? Why haven't I even started mine or decided what I'm making for that matter?? 

Well because, I just got home today from spending 3 weeks in another state caring for some awesome kiddos while their Mommy went to Ukraine to adopt their little brother. There were 8 kids I was responsible for, the last week they were all on Christmas break, most of them were sick, and two of them ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and are still there. Crocheting really hasn't been very high on my priority list, nor have I had a lot of spare time on my hands.

No, I'm not a saint. I'm tired, sick, and a bit cranky - not feeling very saint-like. I was just doing what God laid on my heart to do by helping them out in that way with their adoption.

Nice talking to you too. Glad you don't have to work on Christmas presents the next few days like someone else does. Good bye.

Just a conversation I am having over Blogger with my imaginary friend... ;) You should try talking with them sometime. It's fun.

Jimmy's Benefit

Tonight was Jimmy's benefit. I blogged about the benefit/him here. There was a great turnout, but no total yet!

Rachel and I had a table of our stuff, including some Ghana flag themed items. :) The donation basket on our table (we did prices labeled as suggested donation, not actually sold it) $166 for Jimmy!! Praise God! Ironic thing is, that's the same amount as our farmers market last weekend for  Lilly! :)

The tables all set up, ready for lots of people to eat lots of pie!

And the pies.... yes, I'm being cruel and making you hungry. Bwahaha (evil laugh)! ;]
